What are Full Dentures, and What Do They Involve?

Full dentures are a set of removable dental prosthetics that replace missing teeth. Traditional complete dentures generally have a flesh-colored acrylic base and plastic or porcelain false teeth. To receive these dentures, the patient must get their jaws measured for a tailored fit. After this initial step, our office creates a wax bite to ensure that the denture fits when it is finalized. Then we craft the acrylic base that serves as the support system for the upper and lower sets of teeth before attaching the individual plastic or porcelain teeth. It can take some time to adjust to new complete dentures and require routine adjustments until they feel like a perfect fit – but don’t worry! Our office is well-equipped to make sure you stay comfortable with your smile. We’ll ask you to come in a few times during this process step so we can make any necessary adjustments to ensure the perfect fit. Once everything fits well and you are satisfied, they’re ready to go! Of course, our job doesn’t end here; we’ll work with you continuingly after placement to promote healing and check for signs of irritation or discomfort.

Who is a Good Candidate for Full Dentures?

Individuals who are missing all of their natural teeth in an arch or have few remaining teeth can make excellent candidates for dentures. We can often even use existing teeth to anchor the denture and provide additional stability. Implants may need to be placed if there is not enough bone to do this. We must evaluate your oral health and consider any medical conditions you may have before determining if full dentures will be a good choice for you. Our team would love to discuss your options, so please get in touch with us today!

How to Take Care of Your Full Dentures

Taking proper care of your dentures is very important for your oral health. To ensure that your dentures remain in the best condition, brush them daily with toothpaste or a special denture cleaner to remove plaque and tartar. Keep them moist by soaking removable dentures overnight in a solution designed for this purpose. Finally, it’s essential to see your dentist regularly to ensure that the fit of your dentures is still correct so that they can be adjusted as needed. By following these steps, you’ll be able to take the best possible care of your complete dentures and maintain good oral health overall.
